It is known for understanding and harmony between different ethnic groups and religions. Spiritually, community and family are cultural values. FREE EVENT! Physical Therapy with a Touch of Osteopathy Every yoga communiity includes many special people from all walks of life who, in addition to practicing yoga, also are utlizing their skills and gifts in many ways through the work they do outside of the studio. Given that many students come to the studio with physical challenges and limitations, we thought we would profile a student who helps people with such issues.
Shannon Kriner works right next door to the studio at Washington Spine and Sports Medicine, where she is a physical therapist. In addition to her physical therapy training, Shannon has also extensively trained at the Michigan State Ostepathic Medical School in their continuing education program, and has applied that learning to her therapy.
The osteopathic philosophy is based on a few principles such as: structure and function are inter-related, the body is a dynamic unit of function, and the body possesses a self-regulatory and self-healing mechanism. This holistic approach integrates the patient into the healthcare process as a partner and supports the body's natural tendency toward health. With this partnership, there is emphasis on health promotion as well as disease prevention.
If you are interested in learning more, we've invited Shannon to give a FREE talk to students on SATURDAY, FEBURARY 18TH from 3 to 4:00pm.
In order to know how many people might attend, we ask that you pre-register on our website. You can click the link in the left column to do so.

Yoga for Healthy Hips and Knees Yoga offers many tools to create space and relieve pain in the knees and hips. Do your knees give you twinges? Were you a runner in a previous life or is your meniscus torn? And those hips, are they tight from sitting all day at the office or driving your children to every activity? We all carry so much around our pelvis and hips, center for creativity and home of the second Chakra. Join Edie in this therapeutic workshop for the hips and knees and learn how to align your legs, lessen your pain and discomfort and find ease in your hips. You will learn to stand and use your legs and hips in ways that allow tension to dissipate and that support your back and shoulders. Slow, mindful, repetitive movements that you can take home and practice on your own so you can let go of what aches and get the energy to flow. This is a therapeutic workshop to focus on those areas, using props like balls, straps, blocks and chairs as needed, to give you ways to help yourself. “No Pain, No Pain” is what Edie says. Pain is a great teacher and can act as our little guru, teaching us how to heal and be patient with ourselves in the process. Knee and hip pain are most commonly caused by wear and tear which can be further irritated by the subtlest asymmetry. Imbalances in the hips can disturb the alignment of the knees, and vice versa. Through yoga we can stretch and strengthen the muscles around the hips and thighs in order to address the full range of motion in the hips, and in effect, protect the knees. NO YOGA EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Edie Lazenby has been teaching full time since 2005, to students of all ages. An Anusara Inspired [TM] instructor. Edie uses these principles as guidelines to inform all her teaching. More important though, in so many ways, Edie’s classes are filled with her candor and humor because she believes in having fun and celebrating the joy that is in each student’s heart and sharing what is in her heart.
